"Held"

Is an ongoing body of paintings concerned with stillness as an active state-- not absence, but presence.

But through slow, deliberate layering, the works resist narrative and horizon. Instead, they invite prolonged looking, allowing atmosphere, surface, and restraint to carry meaning. Each painting holds a quiet tension between openness, clarity and suspension.

The process is central to the work. The paintings were made with brushes given by my children-- a gesture of care that became embedded in the act of painting itself. This intimacy informs the surfaces, lending them a sense of attentiveness and held time.

While unified by tone and intention, the series continues to unfold across varied hues, allowing subtle shifts in temperature and mood. Held remains open-- a sustained exploration of presence, patience, and what emerges when nothing is rushed.
